Our retirement to Beaufort was one of the best moves my husband and I ever made. Our family summered in Emerald Isle every year and I always loved coming to Beaufort for dinner, even hoping to retire here. Previously I grew up on Long Island before settling and raising a family in Winston-Salem. We have four grown children and five grandchildren. I love to sail, knit, read and paint.

Mary Ann Tormey
A native of NC, MaryAnn spent her early years just 90 miles west of Beaufort. She graduated in 1988 from UNC-Chapel Hill with a BSN (nursing). Her experience was in adult clinical cardiac electrophysiology. With her husband Patrick, she has three daughters. The young family moved from NC to MA for 5 years and then returned to NC. Through the years, the Tomeys have raised horses, llamas, a house-trained bunny, guinea pigs, a talking parakeet, and always a devoted dog or two. Their nest is now empty except for one goofy dog named Max. MaryAnn and family enjoy boating. And she plays tennis, golf, and/or pickleball daily, but explains that she is only truly good at tennis.

My lovely life in reverse - Food activist, farmer, build more homes, move to Gloucester, home builder, treasurer for this and that, Habitat site supervisor, mom, move to Chapel Hill, mom, ice cream plant accountant, back to PA, stepmom, move to VT, Quaker, happy family in suburban Philadelphia with three younger brothers (and we're all still talking!). Favorite words - 'you're Hathaway's mom!' or 'Peter and Eric's mom is our field trip driver today', long past but still favorite. Husband Chris enjoys different things like fishing and boat building since retiring from UNC-CH, perfect travel companion in our little RV. Two dogs, two grandchildren, more memories to come.
